STUDENT SUCCESS AND ON-CAMPUS HOUSING

Beginning with the first-year entering class of fall 2021, on-campus living will be extended to include a second academic year. This decision has been considered alongside university administrators for several years as MSU has continued to invest in student success initiatives to support our students in their pursuit of a college education.

Research shows living on campus has direct benefits for second-year students especially, with one of those benefits being a positive impact on their likelihood of graduating.

“Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we, as an institution, act in ways that support our students and their success at Michigan State,” says Vennie Gore, senior vice president for Auxiliary Enterprises. “Reinstating the second-year live-on requirement will help us better equip our students with the tools they need, while in a supportive and safe environment, to help them succeed.”

Specific details can be found in the second-year live-on requirement informational sheet here.

Senior Vice President for Auxiliary Enterprises Vennie Gore and the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of Undergraduate Studies Dr. Mark Largent met with local landlords and property management partners to discuss the impacts of the second-year live-on reinstatement on their businesses.
