NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) RESPONSE

MSU has suspended face-to-face instruction in lectures, seminars and classroom settings and has moved coursework to virtual instruction. This suspension of in-person classes will last until April 20.

While students have been encouraged to return their permanent place of residence, we understand that not all students can do so. We believe it is important to brief you on the cleaning practices used within our facilities and detail our plans in keeping campus healthy and safe. Please stay up-to-date on MSU's response at msu.edu/coronavirus

Our Residence Education and Housing Services (REHS) Facilities team has increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfection throughout public areas of its buildings. This includes the use of disinfecting cleaning products on high-touch surfaces such as door handles and elevator buttons throughout the day, as well as increased touch-up cleaning and disinfection in public bathrooms. Additionally, teams are increasing the frequency of disinfecting tables, chairs and high-touch surfaces in dining facilities with Oxivir-TB, a peroxide based antiviral cleaning solution. This happens before breakfast and between lunch and dinner. This additional sanitation measure will continue indefinitely. Community bathroom cleaning continues at cold/flu season levels.

Our team is working diligently to keep our Spartan family healthy and safe. While there are no additional precautions recommended at this time, it is important to remember the steps you can take to prevent the spread of any virus, including the flu:

  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces daily in your residence hall room (e.g., tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, handles, desks, toilets, sinks)
  • Wash hands often with soap and water. Scrub with soap for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid large crowds in areas where viruses are prevalent.
  • Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.

The safety of our MSU Community is something we take seriously. In collaboration with Michigan State University and the University Physician, RHS will continue to monitor the health and wellness of the campus community following guidance from local, state and federal public health agencies including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). We will address updates as they come.
